I recently visited a Chinese Supermarket and bought a Tonic Soup Herb pack. I think it may be suitable for this recipe. I also have in the fridge a lovely free range Norfolk Black Chicken…not black like your Black Chicken but possibly descended from it.
Could I add any vegetables to the soup? Chinese or Western.

I guess the red color is brought by red dates. Change your red dates to better quality or add it later.

Yes, fresh yam works fine with this soup. But the flavor is slightly different from dried version.
